How to check your cars engine oil level

Engine oil is a very important fluid to have in your cars engine.Engine oil in your car protects, cools and lubes the inner engine parts from ceasing up,as you continue to drive your car,the cars oil does thin out and evaporation does happen, because of the extreme constant heat.

There are many cars out there that does burn oil, which is some of the cars oil slipping by the piston rings and mixing in with the gas in combustion. If this happens, what this means, you would need to check your cars oil level more often and most likely add some oil.

Another reason why you would check your cars oil level is before you go on a long trip and you are using your car.I will explain below how to check your cars oil level in the engine.

The Items you will need is a paper towel or a rag,oil fill funnel and engine oil.

1. To begin have your paper towel or rag handy and go to your car,on the inside of your car underneath the steering wheel is the lever, which should say hood on it,pull it out and the hood should pop up.

2. Now go to the front of your car and open the hood, there is a little lever under the front tip of the hood, which moves to one side and releases a hook so you can lift the hood up.

3. While you have the hood up,there is a long metal bar that holds the hood up,lift it up and look up under the hood, there is a hole where the other end of the metal pole hooks into and keeps the hood up.This hole for the bar to connect into should be on the upper right inside.Make sure the hood and bar is nice and secure before proceeding.

4. What you are looking for now is the engine oil dipstick,The dipstick is located around near the engine and should have the word oil on it and a hook to pull it out or the top of the dipstick is a different color.

5. Once you find the dipstick, pull it out and with your rag wipe the oil of the tip,put the dipstick back and pull it out again, now on the same end where you wiped the oil off,on the dipstick there should be four lines and an oil mark on one of the lines. This should tell you if you need to add oil or not.

6. What the four lines are is,if the oil mark is on the first line, this means you need to add 3 or four quarts of oils,if the oil mark is on the second line you add 2 or 3 quarts of oil,if the oil mark is on the last line, you don’t need to add any because this is the full line, which means your cars has the proper amount of oil. From 1 line to the other is 1 quart of oil.

7.Now if you need to add any oil,the oil fill cap is either on the top of the engine or on 1 side of the engine on top of the valve cover. What you do is turn the cap counter clockwise which will loosen the cap and then you have to pry the cap up or twist it off.

8.After the cap is off,get your oil funnel and put the narrow part of the funnel into the oil fill hole, now get your oil you need to add, open that cap and pour the oil in.Now go back and recheck the dipstick to see where the oil mark is.Depending on where the oil mark is you might need to add more oil.

Auto Repair Services for your car: Why is it important?

A car is probably one of the most expensive investments. It is a status symbol and so is a cherished possession for many. The better the car you own, the higher your status in the society. Volkswagen, Audi, BMW and even Ferrari have cars with the best quality. The style, mileage and the warranty are some of the main criteria that are researched upon before buying a car. They are all irresistible and waiting to be pounced upon. While owning the coolest car is important, getting the car regularly serviced is much more important.

Many people do not realize about the importance of car repairs till the car actually breaks down. Some people ignore the check engine light that flashes on the front of the car which could then cause the actual defect in the car to increase. All cars go through mechanical decadence after a period of time and it needs to be looked into. No matter how strong, good or modern a car is, it is after all a machine and so requires regular maintenance and check ups. These regular check ups helps clear out minor problems, if any, in the car without letting it aggravate that could cause more problems in the long run.

Looking for good auto repair services can be difficult as it is difficult to trust anybody with your car. Some people fall prey to the big advertisements that assure you of their best services and it turns out their best is not what you are looking for and you might end up paying a large amount for poor car repair services. A car once serviced should be as good as new to use. A routine check up includes surveying engine oil, brakes, the lights, batteries, the wiper blades, clutch, tires, steering and others.

For the car to be serviced, the auto repair technician should know everything there is to know about cars in order to be able to service it correctly. He should know how to fix every little problem and at the same also be able to handle major defects. Finding such people is very difficult if it is your first time and car repairs cost a lot of money. They could charge more than the actual cost and you would not even know. So it is always safe and recommended to ask people you know for these services so there is someone’s opinion to fall back on.

The new and expensive cars have more exclusive and complex features. Their engines are different and obviously better as compared to the other cars. Any ordinary auto repair technician will not be able to fix them due to their complexity and it should not be risked as well. So if you own a Volkswagen then you send it to the Volkswagen service station itself. Since they are the manufacturers, they know every make and model better than anybody else and will know exactly what to do. This might cost more than ordinary car repairs but will help save a fortune in the long run.
